These Air Fryer Hash Browns are the perfect breakfast side! These hash browns get so crispy in the air fryer, you will never want to cook them another way!
Who else shares my love of potatoes? Potatoes come in so many different shapes, sizes and forms that it is really hard to choose just one variety or cook. However, hash browns might be one of my favorite ways to eat potatoes. I never really made hash browns at home before having an air fryer because they just wouldn't get as crispy as they do at restaurants or fast food places. It was always a letdown for me. However, when I purchased my first air fryer, my life changed. I made some hash browns in it and it was like I was transported back to my favorite breakfast diner. Once you try these air fryer hash browns, you won't go back to any other way of making them!
These hash browns are deliciously crisp with the perfect crunch when you bite into them. They also are ready in under 20 minutes and aren't greasy like they are when they are fried.

Why You Should Make These Air Fryer Hash Browns
- Quick Breakfast Side- This is the perfect quick breakfast side! I make them alongside all my breakfast dishes! It helps to turn breakfast into a full meal!
- Easy- These couldn't be any easier. It is such a hands-off recipe that it is perfect when you have other things in the oven or on the stove.
- Family Friendly- Name a child that doesn't love hash browns, I'll wait...seriously though, these hash browns are family-friendly and the perfect touch to any breakfast.
Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Hash Browns- For this recipe, we are using pre-made frozen hash browns. It makes it super easy and literally all you have to do is add them to your air fryer and hit cook! I love using the variety from Trader Joe's. I have used other varieties from supermarkets before and I just found them to have a super processed taste about them. Look for hash browns that have only one ingredient, potatoes.
Instructions
- Place the frozen Hash brown patties in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are in an even layer. My air fryer can fit 4 at a time.
- Secure the basket in the air fryer and set the temperature to 400 degrees and the time for 7 minutes.
- When the timer goes off, flip the patties and cook an additional 7 minutes or until desired crispiness is achieved
- Remove from the basket, and enjoy!
Hint: Most frozen Hash Browns contain some sort of vegetable oil so there is no need to brush or spray these hash browns with oil before adding to the air fryer.
Variations
- Oven Method - If you don't have an air fryer, you can mimic the cook by placing a stainless steel baking rack on top of a cookie sheet and baking these hash browns in the oven for 30 minutes at 425 degrees.
- Shredded Hash Browns - You can also make frozen shredded hash browns in the air fryer. Follow the same guidelines, make sure they are in an even layer in the air fryer basket.

Top tips
- All Air Fryers are different. Make sure you know your air fryer as some require more or less cooking time than others. Check your hash browns at the 7-minute mark. If they are too brown for you, remove them. If they need further cook, flip and cook for another 7 minutes.
- You can cook shredded hash browns in the air fryer, just follow the same directions and make sure to place everything in one layer in the air fryer basket.
- Make sure to put everything in one layer and do not stack the hash browns or they will get soggy and not crisp up.
Recipe FAQ's
I would not recommend stacking the hash browns. I would recommend laying them in an even layer so they will have an even cook.
As most air fryers are non-stick, I would use the same utensils that you would use in a non-stick pan. Avoid metal utensils as they can scratch the surface. I love using a set of silicone tongs, they are high heat and you can normally find a pair under $10.
There can be several reasons why your hash browns are not crisping up. The main reason would be too much moisture. Make sure you cook these from frozen and do not add any additional oil.
