What Makes This Blackberry Strawberry Banana Smoothie the Best?
- Whole-Food Plant-Based: This smoothie is Whole- Food Plant-Based which means it is dairy-free and vegan. The sweetness comes from the maple syrup and the creaminess comes from the almond milk and bananas.
- 5 Ingredients- It doesn't get any easier than this! We almost always have all these ingredients at our house so it is just pulling together your freezer ingredients and blending them up!
- Healthy and Filling- This smoothie is the perfect post-workout drink or just a fun drink for kids that is healthy and filling. Full of whole ingredients, you won't regret this!
Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Strawberries and Blackberries- The base of this smoothie is frozen strawberries and blackberries. You can either purchase frozen fruit from the grocery store or freeze your own, however, you want to make sure that they are frozen and not fresh. If you use fresh, you will have to add ice to your smoothie to cool it making it thick.
- Banana- The banana adds a creaminess to the smoothie so it isn't gritty from the berries. If you don't like bananas, you can leave them out.
- Maple Syrup- The maple syrup adds a hint of sweetness to the smoothie, if you prefer your smoothie less sweet, feel free to leave it out.
See the recipe card for the full ingredient list and quantities.
Instructions
- Measure all the ingredients out into bowls
- Add all of the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth
- Taste the smoothie and add additional sweetener if it is not sweet enough, pour into smoothie glasses and enjoy!
Hint: Add all of the wet ingredients first to make blending easier, you can see in the photo that the strawberries were added last.
Substitutions
- Almond Milk - If you want to keep this nut-free, swap the almond milk with your favorite plant-based milk. I love making this with oat milk as well!
- Frozen Blackberries -If you can't specifically find frozen blackberries, feel free to freeze your own. I lay them out on a cookie sheet and flash freeze them in the freezer before adding them to a bag to keep in the freezer.
- Maple Syrup - You can also sweeten this smoothie with Stevia or another sugar alternative
Variations
- Avocado - Swap the banana for avocado, it will still be super creamy and delicious!
- Spinach - Feel free to load this smoothie with extra vegetables. I love sneaking in handfuls of spinach.
- Protein- Try adding some vegan protein powder to this recipe to boost it!

FAQ's
It all depends on the ingredients that are going into it. If you are using fresh, whole-food ingredients like fresh fruit and sweetening it with a natural sugar, then no, it is not bad for you. But if you are using processed fruits or fruit purees and juice concentrates, then yes, it would be bad for you because it contains a lot of added sugar.
I love putting berries in my smoothies to really get that antioxidant boost. I also love using a lot of fruits that are high in natural sugar to maintain the sweetness of the smoothie. I love using fruits such as bananas, mango, cherries, peaches, and pineapple.
Pour this Blackberry Strawberry Banana smoothie into a large glass if serving for one, or two smaller glasses if serving for two. Add a straw and enjoy!
