What Makes These Brownies so Great?
- These Dairy-Free Brownies are ready in just 40 minutes!
- This dessert is the perfect easy and quick dessert to bring to any potluck, birthday or office event!
- These brownies are dairy-free so they are perfect for those who have allergies!
- These brownies have a secret ingredient, avocado to keep them nice and moist!
Ingredient Notes
- Cocoa Powder-I use Hershey's Cocoa Powder. Make sure to sift it if it is lumpy!
- Avocados- Avocados have more potassium than bananas and may help lower cholesterol levels. They are also perfect for sneaking into baked goods. The mashed avocado will help keep the brownies moist and fudgy!
- All-Purpose Flour- The base of this recipe is flour. If you are gluten-free you can swap the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
See the recipe card for the full ingredient list and quantities.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9x9 inch glass pan with cooking spray
- Mash the avocado into a glass bowl and then mix well with the melted vegan butter, mixing until no lumps remain and the mixture is smooth.
- Add the sugar, flax eggs and vanilla extract and cream until combined.
- Add the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda and mix well until the batter is fully combined. The batter will be very thick.
- Fold in the chocolate chunks and pour the batter into the 9x9-inch glass pan.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the brownies have set in the middle. You don't want the pan to be jiggly and when you insert a toothpick, you want it to come out clean.
- Let the brownies cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
Hint: Make sure to let the brownies cool before slicing or they will be too delicate to handle and may fall apart.
Substitutions
- Avocado -If you are allergic to avocado or don't have it on hand, you can leave it out. It helps to make the brownies extra moist but they will be just fine without it.
- White Sugar - If you want to keep this refined sugar free, you can swap the white sugar with coconut sugar or ½ cup maple syrup. Note that it will not be as sweet though.
- Chocolate Chunks - If you prefer the smooth bite of a brownie, feel free to leave out the chocolate chunks.
Variations
- Spicy - Add a kick of spice to this recipe by adding ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the batter.
- Mexican Hot Chocolate - Add some cinnamon to the batter and top with marshmallows before baking to turn transform these brownies into your favorite drink!
- Candy - Fold your favorite candy into the batter to make a fun variation perfect for holidays!
