This Hula Pie is easy and simple to make. A fun recipe to make with family, this Hula Pie will bring back all the memories of Maui beaches. This Hula Pie is a riff off of the pie made famous in Hawaii, but it is plant-based and vegan. This pie will have you jumping for joy!
Start by chilling the coconut cream overnight in the fridge.
Using either a stand mixer or a hand mixer, scoop out the coconut cream and beat until stiff peaks form.
Slowly fold in the vanilla bean paste, sweetened condensed milk, and chopped macadamia nuts.
Find a bowl where the rim will easily fit inside the pie crust (if using a 9” pie crust, find a bowl where the rim is under 9”) You will be placing the bowl upside down in the crust. Line the bowl with plastic wrap and pour the macadamia nut ice cream into the bowl. Freeze overnight
In a food processor, add in the Oreos and 5 tbs of melted vegan butter. Pulse until a rough crumble is formed.
Press the crumble into a greased pie pan and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Take out the frozen ice cream and gently flip it into the oreo pie crust. It should easily come out of the plastic wrap.
In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate chunks and add 3 tbs of vegan cream. I used plain Nutpods.
Once the chocolate fudge sauce is melted, spoon the fudge sauce over the top of the pie. Line the rim of the pie with whipped cream and sprinkle with macadamia nuts.
Notes
Note: You can either buy vegan sweetened condensed milk or make your own. I've tested this recipe both ways. This is a great brand if you want to go the store-bought route. If you want to make your own, you can follow this tutorial here.
